Funky and fierce, Laura Thomas is a singer with a sound like no one else in the industry. Her music combines the power of rock, folk, and funk with probing lyrics and emotional songwriting. Laura sings with Ani Difranco's tell-it-like-it-is defiance, Alanis Morissette's sheer, clear power, and the sultriness of Norah Jones. The result is an audio-shock of emotional truth. The Village Voice recently praised Laura for her "thick-skinned song-poems in jazzoid rhythms." The Washington Post said that "Her voice is capable of tracing melodies as sinuous as the Rock Creek Parkway, and she has a soft spot for writing tender, compassionate or introspective ballads that help set her apart from the rant'n'roll crowd." Over the past six years, the Laura Thomas Band has taken the stage across the country, from San Francisco to New York, packing to the hilt such prestigious venues as the Rockwood Music Hall, Mercury Lounge, and Joe's Pub. Laura has also captivated students at Yale University, Columbia University, and Middlebury College, among others. In 2008 the Laura Thomas Band released "Live at Rockwood," an explosive demonstration of Laura's power to connect with an audience. Previously, in 2005, the LTB released Step to the Wire, featuring the hard-hitting political allegory Blind Trinity, an eviscerating exploration of frustrations with the Bush Administration. Laura has also released two solo albums: Slow, in 2004, and On On My Sleeve in 2002. Her biting, crafty lyrics, massive voice, and passionate, proficient band make for an emotionally charged show.
